with Dennis Fisher
The "Computer Doctor"

Dennis Fisher (The Computer Doctor) was our October speaker. "Dennis has been "doctoring" our computers here in the village for many years. His expertise was apparent in his very interesting presentation all about the need and methods of backing up our data.

His presentation was attended by over 60 members. He explained the various types of backup and how computer backup has evolved since the 1950's. Dennis fielded many questions from our members concerning their problems with the how and when to backup. Dennis was very informative and we hope to have him back next year to give another presentation.

Afterwards, the members had a chance to chat with Dennis, socialize with other members and partake in the excellent refreshments.

General Meeting--Wednesday, September 24th

TOPIC: It's never too late to
LEARN and KEEP on LEARNING
about COMPUTERS

with Harriet Marois Ph.D.
Carlsbad Senior Center

Harriet Marois was our September speaker. Harriet is a professional computer teacher, Microsoft Certified and teaches seniors regularly at the Carlsbad Senior.

Her presentation was attended by over 70 members. She explained the various classes that she teaches on various computer concepts and applications, including "computer literacy" and "computer workshops"as well as private tutoring.

Harriet was very informative and we hope to have her back in the village to help our members keep learning, regardless of our age!

 

Afterwards, the members had a chance to chat with Harriet, socialize with other members and partake in the excellent refreshments.

General Meeting--Wednesday, June 25th

Streaming Audio/Video

Cheryl Wester presented Applian Software's suite of programs that make it easy to record and edit any audio or video source on the interent. Applian's software is very user friendly and if unusually flexible.

Applian also has a small but dedicated staff devoted to the idea of recording and editing audio or video for home users. They also have a flexible conversion program to allow for almost everyone's favorite file types.

Cheryl is very adept at the program's functions and demonstrated it to the delight of our club members.

A large crowd was in attendance and was very appreciative of Cheryl's presentation, as she answered many questions from the audience.

Corel Painter

Karl Wester presented Corel's Painter program with a special tablet. This program is for digital photography members who want to do a little more than just resize, sharpen or email pictures. The program can actually make your pictures look like painted pictures. Karl explained the equipment needed and stressed having patience and learning as you are expanding your knowledge of digital photography.

A large crowd was in attendance and was very appreciative of Karl's presentation.

"Power Point made Easy"

Our own Dorothy Miller, showed us how easy it is to develop beautiful Power Points. Dorothy retired from Cal State Northridge as the Dean of the Computer Science Department.

Power Point presentations using your PC makes using your computer easier and more interesting for the whole family. Dorothy presented an interesting step-by-step procedure to produce a family oriented Power Point presentation that included text, pictures, animations and sounds.
