Dennis Fisher (The Computer Doctor) presided over an overflow crowd of members anxious to learn about Virus's and ways to keep their computer clean. His presentation was attended by over 75 members.

Dennis handled many questions from the members, as well answering members questions after his presentation. See the line below?

TOPIC: Excel

Dorothy Miller

1:00pm Abravanel Hall

Dorothy Miller presented an overview the popular Microsoft program EXCEL. Her presentation was attended by over 55 members. Dorothy's presentation was timely and interesting for all of our members interested in learning more about spreadsheets to analyze their personal information needs in an easy, yet powerful manner.

Dorothy handled many questions from the members, as well as offering to have further workshops for all interested people, starting next Thursday and continuing into May.

 


 

Afterwards, the members enjoyed the refreshments and had a chance to socialize.

General Meeting--Wednesday, March 25th

TOPIC:
Turbo Tax 2008

Jeff Brown, Intuit Corporation

1:00pm Abravanel Hall

Jeff Brown, Software Engineer with Intuit Corp. presented an overview of Turbo Tax. His presentation was attended by over 60 members. His presentation was timely and interesting for all of our members interested in preparing their own tax returns on-line.

Jeff handled many questions from the membership regarding Turbo Tax and was very informative not only because of his answers but he explained the logic behind Intuit's ongoing efforts at improving their product.

Afterwards, the members had a chance to chat with Jeff and, of course his dad our past-president Terry Brown while partaking in the excellent refreshments.

General Meeting--Wednesday, February 25th

TOPIC:
"Microsoft--2009"

Woody Pewitt

WOODY PEWITT, Microsoft Technology Evangelist, was our speaker in February. Woody reviewed Microsoft's development of their operating systems and also demonstrated the latest free downloads from Microsoft Live.

His presentation was attended by over 75 members. He also demonstrated various programs relating to the manipulation of digital pictures including an interesting technique for making "panoramic" pictures with Microsoft software.

Woody handled many questions from the membership regarding Microsoft's Vista and Windows 7 operating systems as well as how to use Windows XP.

Afterwards, the members had a chance to chat with Woody, socialize with other members and partake in the excellent refreshments.

Lester Hoffman was congratulated for his many years of helping our members work through their computer frustrations.

 

Chuck Myers returned to OHCC to participate in the meeting as well.

TOPIC:
"Best of Open Source Software"

Bill Goodall

Bill Goodall, retired computer consultant from Qualcomm was our January speaker. Bill has spoken to our club previously about Home Networking and this time he updated us on the status of Open Source Programs.

His presentation was attended by over 70 members. He explained the history of Open Source programming and offered various web sites where we can find and download almost any type of computer program imaginable for FREE! The main "open office" programs are similar to Microsoft's Office Suite.

TOPIC: BackUp Your Data

with Dennis Fisher
The "Computer Doctor"

Dennis Fisher (The Computer Doctor) was our October speaker. "Dennis has been "doctoring" our computers here in the village for many years. His expertise was apparent in his very interesting presentation all about the need and methods of backing up our data.

His presentation was attended by over 60 members. He explained the various types of backup and how computer backup has evolved since the 1950's. Dennis fielded many questions from our members concerning their problems with the how and when to backup. Dennis was very informative and we hope to have him back next year to give another presentation.

Computers Monitors, TV sets & Laptops are free to be recycled at the Waste Management Recycling Center at: 2880 Industry St. Oceanside (map)
on Tuesday thru Saturday between 8am & 4pm.

All other electronic devices (computers, DVD players, Telephones, etc.) are 50 cents a pound!!!


Goodwill facilities, especially the one at
1056 E Vista Way (between Oak Dr & Meadowlake Dr) in Vista. They accept all computers and all types of equipment electronic and electric working or not. That includes cables and telephones.
